1 Samuel 22: Saul is really starting to lose it. Clearly he wants nothing more than to kill David. Jealousy and power has definitely gone to his head. Just flat out nuts. In this chapter he had one of his people kill the priests of Nob. Actually, he slaughtered them. Again, Saul has clearly lost his mind.
1 Samuel 23: More on Saul’s pursuit of David. We also see that God is still with David and not Saul because of David’s easy defeat of the Philistines in Keilah. Additionally, God helps David flee Saul on a few occasions in this chapter.
1 Samuel 24: Very interesting turn of events. David had the perfect opportunity to kill Saul when Saul entered the cave where David and his men were hiding. Instead David spared him and chose to confront outside of the cave. To me this shows why David is a better ruler than Saul and finally Saul sees it. Better late than never. David swears to Saul that he will not kill his descendants or his name after Saul is dead.
Psalm 45: This is a sweet Psalm. It is written by someone else directed at David, I think. It is a celebration of his marriage to a foreign woman. A lot of praise of the King is shared here.
Psalm 46: The first Song of Zion (the others are 48, 76, 84, 87, 122, 132, and 137). These Psalms all focus attention on Jerusalem (Zion). The purpose of this Psalm appears to be a declaration of trust in God. As long as one accepts God, everything will be ok.
Psalm 47: A psalm of praise for God and his rule.
Psalm 48: A second Song of Zion, this one focuses on Jerusalem (Zion) itself and the awe and power of the city.
