Isaiah 22: Warnings to Jerusalem and its leaders. The warnings stem from how the leaders behaved during wartime. They apparently stopped focusing on God and spent more time focusing on their defenses. At least this is according to the notes in the CEB study bible (p. 1124 OT).
Isaiah 19-21; Matthew 15-16
Isaiah 19: Threats concerning Egypt. So God strikes down Egypt because of what the people there are doing. We then see at the end of this chapter that the people turn (back?) to God and worship him again. As in, if you hold to a literal interpretation of the Bible, then you believe that the Egyptians followed God out of fear.
Again, strange way to view things. Doesn’t make any sense to me. It seems limiting.
1/31 Reading (Job 16-18; Titus 2)
Job 16: Job responds to Eliphaz in a pretty mean way. He admonishes his three friends for how they are treating him during this tough time. He actually calls them “sorry comforters” (16:2). Yikes! He tells them that if the roles were reversed, he would focus on trying to comfort them and give them strength instead of tearing them down.
11/24 Reading (1 Chronicles 19-21; Romans 11)
1 Chronicles 19: David’s conquests over the Arameans and the Ammonites. They fall easily.

11/21 Reading (1 Chronicles 10-12; Romans 8)
1 Chronicles 10: Entire chapter is about the death of Saul. The story pretty much matches what we read in earlier text (1 Samuel).

11/6 Reading (1 Kings 22; Galatians 3)
1 Kings 22: Ahab meets Judah’s king Jehoshaphat. Ahab goes to war again with Aram, but this time God is not on his side and he loses, dying in battle. We then learn about how long Jehoshaphat rules Judah and how long Ahad’s son, Ahaziah, rules Israel.
9/25 Reading (Joshua 19-21; 1 Corinthians 1 & 2)
Joshua 19: We learn about the land given to Simeon, Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and finally Dan. This chapter ends by sharing that the people gave Joshua the city Timnath-serah in the highlands of Ephraim as was commanded by God.

8/25 Reading (Numbers 15-17; Acts 16)
I’m noticing some subtle changes in my attitude from time to time. There are times where I feel more at peace than before. Almost more spiritual than before. I also find that there are times where I don’t feel like reflecting or writing anything. Instead I just want to read. This has been one of those weeks.
8/19 Reading (Numbers 1-3; Psalms 22-24)
Reading this introduction made me think about how much I’m writing during this process. I’m noticing that during times when I’m busy with other things I start to feel bad or guilty when I don’t write much. It becomes a burden, and it shouldn’t be that way. I will continue to write about what I read and sometimes it will be just a summary of what I read that day. But I think it will help me continue through this journey. Because this is tough stuff.
8/3 Reading (Exodus 31-34; Luke 24)
Yesterday I found out that I’m a finalist for the Sinai and Synapses fellowship. It’s a two year program where I would study and learn from others about science and religion. My interview is next Monday (8/7) and I’m excited about the possibility of doing this.
