10/20 Reading (2 Samuel 4-6; 2 Corinthians 5)

2 Samuel 4: Two men who led raiding parties for Ishbosheth end up killing him in his house, chopping off his head, and delivering his head to David thinking this would please David. They were wrong. David gets angry and has them both killed. We also learn that Saul’s son Jonathan had a son, Mephibosheth.

2 Samuel 5: David becomes King of all of Israel. David then marches on Jerusalem and captures it. He marries more women and has more children. The Philistines march against David to fight him and David prevails with God’s help.

2 Samuel 6: David brings the Ark to Jerusalem. The trip took a little while and there were some stumbles along the way, but he succeeded.

2 Corinthians 5: The chapter continues the message from chapter 4: all will be ok as long as we accept Christ. Whereas chapter 4 focused more on the physical body, this chapter focuses more on our surroundings (i.e. house, clothes, etc.). The second half of the chapter focuses on Paul’s explanation to the people, stressing the importance of reconciliation. He explains their actions and the purpose, which is to bring Christ to the people.
